FREE CROCHET PATTERN ELF CHOCOLATE ORANGE COVER

follow along with this free crochet pattern to make one of these fun elf hats to decorate your home with and keep your chocolate oranges all cozy 🙂 it is a super easy and quick little project to make and as always it is supported by a video tutorial over on my YouTube channel. I hope you have as much fun making these chocolate orange covers as I did :)))))) (I cant walk past them with out giving them a shake to hear the jingle bells haha). In addition to being a great pattern for chocolate orange covers they would make great little hats for dolls and toys too, whatever you decide to use these cute little elf hats for they are certain to put a smile on peoples faces and create a festive feel around your home xxx

Materials

● 4mm Crochet hook
● Stitch marker
● Darning needle
● Scissors
● Craft Jingle bells (mine measure 10mm in diameter and are available on amazon)
● Double Knit Yarn in two colours (I used the Kingcole Glitz range in shades Cherry and Christmas Green)
● Terry’s Chocolate Orange :)))))))

Abbreviations

Ch = Chain
DC = Double Crochet (US Single Crochet) TC = Treble Crochet (US Double crochet) FLODC = Front Loop Only Double Crochet (US Front Loop Only Single Crochet)
sl st = Slip Stitch sk st = Skip Stitch
st = stitch

woohoo now we have gone through all that lets get hooking :))))))))))))

To begin make a magic ring with your first colour(please see tutorial if you need a little help to do this)

Round 1 – Place 4 DC into the magic ring (pull on the loose end to close the magic ring), sl st to join and ch1[4sts] Round 2 – *1DC increase, 1 DC* Repeat once, sl st to join and ch1 [6sts] Round 3 – 1DC in every st, sl St to join and Ch1 [6sts] Round 4 – *1DC increase, 1DC in the next 2sts* Repeat once, sl st to join and ch1 [8sts] Round 5 – 1DC in every st, sl st to join (when finishing the slip stitch it is at this point that you will drop your 1st colour add your 2nd colour and complete the sl st in 2nd colour, please see video tutorial if you need some support in doing this) and Ch1 Round 6 – *1DC increase, 1DC in the next 3sts* Repeat once, sl st to join and ch1 [10sts] Round 7 – 1DC in every st, sl St to join and ch1 [10sts] Round 8 – *1DC increase, 1DC in the next 4sts* Repeat once, sl st to join and ch1 [12sts] Round 9 – 1DC in every st, sl st to join and ch1 [12sts] Round 10 – *1DC increase, 1DC in the next 5sts* Repeat once, sl st to join (when finishing the slip stitch it is at this point that you will drop your 2nd colour, pick your 1st colour back up and complete the sl st in your 1st colour) and ch1 [14sts] Round 11 – 1DC in every st, sl st to join and ch1 [14sts] Round 12 – *1DC increase, 1DC in the next 6sts* Repeat once, sl st to join and ch1 [16sts] Round 13 – *1DC increase, 1DC in the next 7sts* Repeat once, sl st to join and ch1 [18sts] Round 14 – *1DC increase, 1DC in the next 8sts* Repeat once, sl st to join and ch1 [20sts] Round 15 – 1DC in every st, sl st to join (when finishing the slip stitch it is at this point that you will drop your 1st colour, pick your 2nd colour back up and complete the sl st in your 2nd colour)and ch1 [20sts] Round 16 – *1DC increase, 1DC in the next 9sts* Repeat once, sl st to join and ch1 [22sts] Round 17 – *1DC increase, 1DC in the next 10sts* Repeat once, sl st to join and ch1 [24sts] Round 18 – *1DC increase, 1DC in the next 11sts* Repeat once, sl st to join and ch1 [26sts] Round 19 – *1DC increase, 1DC in the next 12sts* Repeat once, sl st to join and ch1 [28sts] Round 20 – 1DC in every st, sl st to join (when finishing the slip stitch it is at this point that you will drop your 2nd colour, pick your 1st colour back up and complete the sl st in your 1st colour) and ch1 [28sts] Round 21 – *1DC increase, 1DC in the next 13sts* Repeat once, sl st to join and ch1 [30sts] Round 22 – 1DC in every st, sl st to join and ch1 [30sts] Round 23 – *1DC increase, 1DC in the next 14sts* Repeat once, sl st to join and ch1 [32sts] Round 24 *1DC increase, 1DC in the next 15sts* Repeat once, sl st to join and ch1 [34sts] Round 25 – *1DC increase, 1DC in the next 33sts, sl st to join (when finishing the slip stitch it is at this point that you will drop your 1st colour, pick your 2nd colour back up and complete the sl st in your 2nd colour) and ch1 [35sts] Round 26 – Round 45 – 1DC in every st, sl st to join and ch1 [35sts] *Remember to change colours every 5 rounds your last colour change will be made at Round 40 from there the remainder of the project will be made in the 1st colour* Round 46 – 1FLODC in every st around, sl st to join and ch1 [35 sts] Round 47 – Round 49 – 1DC in every st, sl st to join and ch1 [35sts] Round 50 – Starting in the 2nd st *3tc,sl st, sk 2 sts, sl st* Repeat 6 times, ch1 and fasten off 🙂 [35sts]

Now all that is left to do is weave in your loose ends and attach your jingle bells I attached a bell on each of the peaks made in round 50 and one bell the top of the hat :))))))))))
