FREE PATTERN: Mini Christmas Stocking Advent Calendar

Its coming to that time of year woohoo! I have made this gorgeous advent calendar for my mum making 25 of these gorgeous mini stocking and joining them all together but you can also make this stockings to make lovely decorations for your home and Christmas tree πŸ™‚ It is a great little project to use up any scraps of yarn in your yarn stash and the colour combinations are are limited by your imagination:) Hope you have lots of fun making this project I certainly did :))))))

Materials

● 4mm Crochet hook
● Stitch marker
● Darning needle
● Scissors

YARN

I chose to use Kingcole Glitz Double Knitting Yarn in the colours Christmas, Cherry, Christmas Green and Diamond White (you will not need a full ball of each of these yarns I made the most stockings in the colour Christmas (12 Stockings) and this used roughly around half a ball of yarn. This is a good pattern for using up scrap yarns from other projects as each stocking only needs a small amount you could have a different coulor for every stocking πŸ™‚

Abbreviations

Ch = Chain
DC = Double Crochet (US Single Crochet)
HTC = Half Treble Crochet (US Half Double Crochet)
TC = Treble Crochet (US Double Crochet)
St = stitch

Special Notes

This pattern is worked in rounds joining each round with a slip stitch. Sometimes the slip
stitch is worked as a normal slip stitch and sometimes it is worked into the back loop only,
this will be indicated on the pattern for each round. Use the stitch marker as guided below to
mark the start of each round. Once you reach the stitch marker you will be instructed to slip
stitch into the marked stitch. At this point you can remove the stitch marker ready to mark
your first stitch of the next round.

Plain Stocking Pattern

The solid colour pattern uses 2 colours called yarn A and B.

TOE – worked in yarn A (I used a combination of the colours Christmas, Christmas Green and Cherry)

Using yarn A make a magic loop
Round 1: Ch 1 (does not count as stitch), 6DC into loop, close loop and slip stitch into first
DC (6 stitches)
Round 2: 2HTC in each stitch round marking first HTC with a stitch marker. At end of round
slip stitch into the back loop only of the first HTC marked with stitch marker (12 stitches)
Round 3: 2HTC in next stitch marking first HTC with a stitch marker. 1 HTC in next stitch.
Repeat 2HTC, 1HTC 5 more times to complete round. At end of round slip stitch into the
back loop only of the first HTC marked with stitch marker (18 stitches)
Round 4: 1 HTC in each stitch round marking first htc with stitch marker. At end of round slip
stitch into the back loop only of the first htc marked with stitch marker (18 stitches)
Rounds 5 – 7: Repeat Round 4 three more times. Remove hook and insert stitch marker to
keep stitch secure. You will pick this stitch up later to continue working in rounds so don’t cut
the yarn.

HEEL – worked in yarn B (I used diamond white)
Step 1: Skip next 3 stitches and fasten yarn B onto 4th stitch. Hook yarn through stitch to
create a loop, pull yarn through to make a slip stitch.
Step 2: In next 11 stitches around complete the following stitches; DC, HTC, HTC, TC, TC,
TC, TC, TC, HTC, HTC, DC, normal slip stitch into the next stitch and turn work.
Step 3: Work back along the stitches you have just created with the following stitches; DC,
HTC, HTC, TC, TC, TC, TC, TC, HTC, HTC, DC, normal slip stitch into the stitch where you
first joined yarn B and turn work. Step 4: Work back along the stitches you have just created with the following stitches; DC,
HTC, HTC, TC, TC, TC, TC, TC, HTC, HTC, DC, normal slip stitch into the next stitch where

BODY OF STOCKING – worked in yarn A
Continue rounds from toe in yarn A
Round 8: Insert hook back into yarn A and HTC in each stitch round (18 stitches in total)
marking the first HTC with a stitch marker. Note: your 4th HTC should be in the stitch space
where the heel joins the toe and the 16th HTC will be in the last stitch of the heel. HTC 17
and 18 will be back into the remaining stitches of yarn A.
At end of round slip stitch into the back loop only of the first HTC marked with stitch marker.
(18 stitches)
Round 9: HTC in each stitch round marking first HTC with stitch marker. At end of round slip
stitch into the back loop only of the first HTC marked with stitch marker. (18 stitches)
Round 10 – 12: Repeat Round 9 three more times. For the very last slip stitch use yarn B to
complete the slip stitch into the back loop only which joins yarn B ready for the next round.
You may cut yarn A at this point if you wish as you no longer need it. (18 stitches)

TRIM OF STOCKING – worked in yarn B
Round 13: With yarn B HTC in each stitch round marking first HTC with stitch marker. At
end of round do a normal slip stitch into first HTC marked with stitch marker (18 stitches)
Round 14: Normal slip stitch into next 7 stitches marking the first stitch with a stitch marker,
Ch 6, slip stitch into remaining 11 stitches. Make one last slip stitch into the top loop only of
the first slip stitch marked with the stitch marker. Cut the yarn and pull through off hook. Sew
end in going from front to back of stocking to complete round neatly.
Sew in all ends.

Striped Stocking Pattern

This pattern is also worked in rounds using 2 colours (yarn A and B) to create the stripes and
a third colour (yarn C) to create the heel and trim. Each round is completed with a slip stitch
and you carry the 2 yarns up the inside of the stocking swapping between stripes so there is
no need to cut the yarn at the end of each round. Sometimes the slip stitch is worked as a
normal slip stitch and sometimes it is worked into the back loop only, this will be indicated on
the pattern for each round. Use the stitch marker as guided below to mark the start of each
round. Once you reach the stitch marker you will be instructed to slip stitch into the marked
stitch. At this point you can remove the stitch marker ready to mark your first stitch of the
next round.
