Chunky Monkey Fingerless Mittens

I hope that you all enjoy this weeks free crochet pattern for these gorgeous fingerless mittens. Mine have been made using scheepjes Chunky Monkey yarn in the colour Bumblebee. They match perfectly with the scarf and ear warmer patterns and are great, easy and quick items to make eother for yourself, as a gift or to sell in your craft shop

Materials:

100g Cheepjes Chunky Monkey yarn (I used the colour Bumblebee)

4mm Crochet hook

5mm Crochet hook

Scissors

Darning Needle

Special Stitches:

Back Loop Double Crochet – The back loop Double crochet is a variation on the traditional Double Crochet stitch. The main difference being that instead of inserting your hook underneath the entire stitch, the hook enters in the centre of the stitch, and exits underneath the back loop. This creates a nice ridged or ribbed texture on the fabric and is really simple to do

UK/US Terminology

This Pattern is written using UK terminology: UK Double Crochet (DC) = US single crochet (SC)

UK Treble Crochet (TC) = US Double Crochet (DC)

Abbreviations

ch – Chain

sl st – Slip Stitch

dc – Double Crochet

BLdc – Back Loop Double Crochet

tc – Treble Crochet

OKAY TIME TO GRAB YOU HOOK AND YARN AND LETS GET GOING :))))))

Lets start by making the ribbing that goes around the wrist you will need your 4mm hook for this part

ch 10

Row 1 – dc into the 2nd ch from the hook and 1dc in every ch across (9 sts), ch1 and turn

Row 2 – BLdc into the first st and 1 BLdc into every st across (9sts), ch 1 and turn

Rows 3 – 24 – repeat Row 2

sl st the cuff of the mitten together (9sts) *please see the tutorial for instructions if you are unsure of how to do this*

turn the cuff so the slip stitched seem is on the inside

you will now want to change over and use the larger 5mm hook for the next part of the pattern

ch 1 and turn

Round 1 – place 24 dc evenly around the top of the cuff (I place one dc per row of ribbing) (24 sts)

Round 2 – ch 2 and place 1 tc into the same st, then work alternate dc and tc into every st around (24 sts) sl st to join

Round 3 – ch 1 and place 1 dc into the same st, then work alternate tc and dc into every st around (24 sts) sl st to join
